Jacob & Co. kicked off the new year with the launch of the Astronomia Flawless, the model's founder Jacob Arabo who combined the worlds of sophisticated fine jewelry and fine watchmaking to present the latest additions to the Astronomia collection. . This watch offers a showcase of pristine aesthetics, and "flawless" refers not only to its appearance, but is a term for the highest level of diamond clarity according to the Gemological Institute of America's Diamond Grading Scale. A diamond to be declared flawless must be free of inclusions or blemishes under 10x magnification.
Flawless, therefore, is a fitting reference point for an evolutionary interpretation of Jacob & Co. Featured in the Astronomia collection is a large sapphire crystal, which has been a consistent design element since the launch of the first Astronomia tourbillon in 2014. The transparency of the case allows the three-axis gravity tourbillon movement to be clearly visible from multiple angles. Last year, Jacob & Co. increased the transparency of cases and visibility into the complexity of astronomers with its new Baseworld 2016 launch, the Astronomia Clarity. However, in the spirit of continuous improvement, the Astronomia Flawless has once again raised the level of transparency offered by the Astronomia Clarity, introducing the Astronomia Flawless monolithic sapphire crystal case. The craftsmanship of the monolithic sapphire crystal creates the illusion that the complications within the case are effortlessly floating in mid-air.
To achieve this look, many of the components in the collection that were previously made of precious metals are now made of sapphire crystal: the one-piece case center and lugs, the dial (blue sapphire), and even the buckle. These changes add considerable complexity to the new watch, as making a normal case requires 15 separate steps, representing approximately 326 hours of work. Astronomia models only produce sapphire components, which will take a total of 37 weeks to produce. For this reason, only nine individually numbered pieces of astronomy have been produced flawlessly.
The hand-wound calibre JCAM16 with a three-axis tourbillon, rotating earth and sun and auxiliary hour and minute discs also evolved into Astronomia Flawless. The titanium bridges are finished in rose gold, and the central hub features a 2.23-carat Jacob Cut® yellow diamond representing the sun, in addition to a 1-carat diamond with 288 Jacob Cut facets. .While the dial looks identical to other Astronomia models, the dial of the Astronomia Flawless is made of sapphire crystal with a blue coating.
